Pennsylvania Inmate Takes Head-First Dive Off Cellblock Tier

Authorities say an inmate at a central Pennsylvania prison died after diving head-first off the second tier of a cellblock last week.

Officials in Lycoming County said it happened at about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at the county prison in Williamsport.

Montour County coroner Scott Lynn said 41-year-old Jason O'Neill, of Muncy, died Thursday afternoon at Geisinger Medical Center near Danville. The cause of death was listed as multiple blunt force trauma and the manner as suicide.

County director of administration Matthew McDermott told PennLive.com that the events were recorded on video. He said O'Neill was not on suicide watch.

Authorities said O'Neill had been arrested Tuesday afternoon on a drug charge. He told a district judge that he was homeless and recently lived under a bridge in the Mansfield area.
