Plane Crashes at University Airport Near Penn State University

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a small plane crash at an airport operated by Penn State University.

University spokeswoman Lisa Powers says nobody was hurt when a pilot crashed his small plane at University Park Airport shortly before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Another spokeswoman, Heather Robbins, says the flight was coming in from another state and its destination was the airport. But she could not identify the pilot.

The FAA says Thursday that the plane was a Glasair SH-2F experimental aircraft that crashed while attempting to land. The agency also did not identify the pilot.

American Airlines Flight 4063 from Philadelphia and a second unspecified flight were diverted until the airport reopened about two hours after the crash.

The cause remained under investigation.
