With $10M Grant, PHL Makes Headway on Runway Extension

Efforts to upgrade the Philadelphia International Airport received a $10 million boost Wednesday.

The Department of Transportation awarded PHL a grant of nearly $10.8 million dedicated to the airport's runway extension project and improving portions of the taxiway, according to U.S. Sen. Bob Casey's office.

I’m pleased to see the Department of Transportation investing in Pennsylvania’s infrastructure,” the senator said in a statement. “Philadelphia International Airport is an integral part of the community and this grant will assist in making it a safer, more efficient operation.”

The ongoing project will add a 1,494 linear-foot extension to Runway 9R-27L. The extension, combined with associated taxiway rehabilitation work, has a price tag of about $193 million.
