Wawa to Open 2 More Stores in Center City, Sources Say

Wawa Inc. is expanding its presence in Center City and searching for locations for two additional stores, according to multiple sources.

The convenience store chain is reportedly going to locate a store in 7,000 square feet at the East Market project in a space at 12th and Market streets. Another store will be housed in 4,500 square feet in space now occupied by the I. Goldberg store at the corner of 13th and Chestnut streets. At that location, Wawa will reportedly take two levels, the basement and the street-level space.

A spokesperson for East Market couldn't immediately be reached for comment. An attempt to reach a Wawa representative was unsuccessful.

Wawa currently has a location at Broad and Walnut streets and another at 1900 Market St. that is expected to open before Thanksgiving. With sales reportedly very strong at the Broad Street store, the convenience store operator is said to be eager to continue adding locations in Philadelphia.
