Temple Partners With Lyft in Latest Step to Win Ridesharing

In the fight to nab as much of the local ride-hailing public, Lyft has announced a new partnership with Temple University that aims to capture Owls fans heading out of the Liacouras Center after a basketball game.

The agreement between San Francisco-based Lyft and Temple makes the ridesharing company the "preferred transportation option" for the school's basketball fans – the latest effort by the company to challenge Uber and the recently unified local taxi industry.

Uber has formed similar college partnerships, including one with the University of Pennsylvania.

The Lyft-Temple deal intends to make picking up and dropping off passengers at the Liacouras Center easier by establishing in-app designated locations. Promotions will also be offered during games. Fans in attendance will learn about them through Lyft's "Rally Cam" videos.

As part of the Tuesday announcement, Lyft discounts were available to students through Thursday.
