Radnor-Based Airgas to Build $47M Facility in North Carolina

Airgas USA, a distributor of specialty gases, will move forward with plans to build a new air separation unit in Mebane, North Carolina, that local officials have previously estimated will cost $47 million and create 35 jobs.

Airgas, which is based in Radnor, Pennsylvania, announced that the facility will increase the company’s production capabilities in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina while also strengthening its East Coast merchant gases network.

Triad Business Journal, a sister publication of the Philadelphia Business Journal, broke the story in August that Airgas was evaluating a major facility in Mebane, North Carolina, located about 120 miles northeast of Charlotte, including seeking incentives from the city of Mebane and Alamance County, North Carolina. Alamance County commissioners in early August approved a $470,000 grant, to be paid in annual increments of $94,000 over five years, while Mebane also approved a $470,000 grant as well as waiving up to $100,000 in fees.
