University of Pennsylvania to Build New $163M Dorm

The University of Pennsylvania has plans to develop a new $163-million residential dorm called New College House West.

The project will be located on a parcel that's next to the school's campus and the West Philadelphia branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia at 40th and Walnut streets. The project will continue Penn’s college house system, which creates a community by integrating housing, dining and other uses such as music practice and seminar rooms for undergraduates, faculty, staff and graduate students in a single building.

The college’s board approved on Thursday the design of the proposed 250,000-square-foot building. The architect is Bohlin Cywinsky Jackson Architects.
