Local Theater Debuting Crowdfunded Ray Didinger Play

A local theater banked on crowdfunding to execute its latest production, an autobiographical play based on part of radio host Ray Didinger's life.

Theatre Exile, located at 1340 S. 13th St. on Wednesday, will debut a full-scale production of Tommy and Me by Didinger as a special engagement production, taking place Aug. 3-15, at FringeArts at 140 N. Columbus Blvd.

The autobiographical play recounts a time in Didinger's life when he helped Tommy McDonald reach his goal of being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. McDonald was in the NFL for 12 years as a wide receiver.

The production, however, wasn't part of the theater's traditional season or three-year budget, so to ensure it had the funding to produce the show, Theatre Exile turned to Kickstarter. It exceeded its $35,000 initial goal by more than $5,000 in a one-month timeframe.
