Crowdfunding for Philly Chef Hurt in Amtrak Crash Exceeds Expectations

A crowdfunding site launched for award-winning Chef Eli Kulp, who sustained severe injuries during the Amtrak derailment last month, reached — and went beyond — its original financial goal.

The Kulp Family Medical Fund has raised more than $25,500 from nearly 300 people in only 18 days. The original goal was set at $25,000 by family friend Kelly Mawn Silkworth and Jessica Zayac, who launched the page through website GoFundMe.

Silkworth said the funds would be put toward expenses incurred beyond what insurance would cover, giving the family a “peace of mind so they can concentrate on recovering.” No specifics were given on how the funds would be allocated.
