Philly in Need of More “Brainpower?”

Numbers tell a story, and numbers are saying that having a college degree means more now than ever before. So much more.

With an adult population (25 and over) of more than 4 million, only 33.4 percent of Philadelphia residents hold a bachelor’s degree, and only 13.1 percent have a graduate degree (master’s, doctoral or professional degrees, collectively), according to a U.S. Census Bureau report. It’s no secret that the higher you climb on the academic ladder, the more you get paid on average.

A national study by The Business Journals, analyzing 102 major cities searching for metros with the highest levels of collective brainpower as reflected by the educational attainment of their residents, has Philadelphia ranked at 24. Check out the Business Journal's national story here.

Twenty-four out of 102 isn’t bad, but could the city have ranked higher? Read more about this story on PBJ.com.
