Parents Sentenced in Malnourished Kids Case

The parents of two young girls found malnourished in a filthy Philadelphia-area home last fall have been sentenced to two to four years in state prison.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports that 48-year-old Vincent McDonald and 46-year-old Carole McDonald of Upper Chichester Township apologized in Delaware County Court last week.

Both pleaded guilty in February to child endangerment and conspiracy after the 5- and 7-year-old girls were removed in October from a home that authorities called unfit for human habitation.

Defense attorneys sought leniency, saying both parents had agreed to terminate their parental rights and were unlikely to reoffend, given the circumstances.

Vincent McDonald said he was ashamed of having been what he called "a horrible parent." Carole McDonald said her time in jail had changed her.
