Wilmington Panel Addressing Growing Crime Rates Faces Deadline

A panel formed by Gov. Jack Markell in response to the chronic and growing violent crime problem in Wilmington has two weeks left to report its findings and recommendations.

With the reporting deadline looming, the Wilmington Public Safety Strategies Commission was to meet again Tuesday evening in Wilmington.

Tuesday's meeting at PS Dupont Middle School will include a discussion of crime statistics and mapping, a progress report from two consulting groups, and an in-depth look at the relationship between crime and the business community in the city.

The commission is charged with conducting a rapid, fact-based examination of public safety strategies in Wilmington and offering recommendations to address the city's violent crime problem. Its report is due at the end of this month.
