Firefighters from the city and Montgomery rushed to a City Avenue pancake house this morning after flames began to pour from the restaurant.
A passing Philadelphia medic unit spotted smoke coming from Flap Jack at 115 W City Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. around 3:20 a.m. Friday.
“The fire extended from the kitchen and the roof area up into the duct system,” said Lower Merion Township assistant fire chief Jim McCoy.
Crews from Philadelphia joined firefighters from Lower Merion to battle the blaze.
McCoy said firefighters put hoses into the duct system to battle back the flames and they broke out windows to ventilate the building.
“We attacked it from the inside and then onto the roof area and opened up the area around the ventilation system.”
It took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

No one was hurt, according to firefighters.
McCoy said the fire appeared to begin in the kitchen but that an official cause was pending further investigation.
City Avenue remained closed between 51st Street and Bryn Mawr Avenue as crews battled then investigated the blaze. The water used to battle the blaze also froze onto City Avenue so crews spread salt to try and clear the roadway.
The road reopened around 5 a.m.
