Pennsylvania Councilman Convicted of Repeatedly Molesting Young Girl

A former eastern Pennsylvania borough councilman convicted of repeatedly molesting a young girl for more than five years has been sentenced to 28 to 88 years in prison.

Northampton County Judge Paula Roscioli told 67-year-old Phil Leone Monday that she wanted to ensure that he never reoffends. She said "it is unlikely that you will ever see the outside of a prison wall again."

A jury convicted Leone in March of all counts of sexual abuse of children, aggravated indecent assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

Prosecutors said Leone, a Bangor councilman for 6 years from the late 1990s through the early 2000s, sexually abused the girl from the time she was 5 or 6 until she was about 12. He denied any abuse, and his attorney he will appeal.
