A roundtable discussion in Philadelphia on Tuesday took aim at curbing youth gun violence.
City Councilman Kenyatta Johnson met with more than 30 pastors from churches throughout the city to discuss youth gun violence and talk about ways to reduce it.
"The roundtable discussion is part of a larger conversation among community leaders, religious leaders, political leaders, and young people all over the city to determine what our goals need to be moving forward and how we can all work together to come up with effective solutions to minimize the youth gun violence that is taking place every day in Philadelphia," Johnson said in a statement about the roundtable. "Gun violence is robbing our young people of their lives."
The discussion came on the heels of a drive-by shooting Sunday night in Grays Ferry that left a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old wounded. The shooting, which happened at 31st and Tasker streets, occurred within the boundaries of Johnson's Council District, which covers swaths of Center City, South Philadelphia and Southwest Philadelphia.
