Twin Boys Sleeping in Back as Thief Swipes Car: Philly Police

A happy ending after a thief made off with not only a man’s car but his 3-year-old twins asleep in the backseat.

The father kept his car running to keep his boys warm as he dipped into a Chinese takeout restaurant at Broad and Chew streets in Olney around 11:30 p.m., said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

After only “a minute” or so inside, the man came out to find his car, and his boys, gone, said police.

Officers quickly began searching the area and luckily found the car at 15th Street and Widener Place – that’s about five blocks north – the engine running and the boys asleep in the backseat, said Small.

Medics checked out the boys at the scene but they appeared unharmed and were reunited with dad. The situation could have been worse if the engine had died or turned off with temps hovering around freezing, said Small.

Investigators dusted the car for fingerprints and checked for DNA in hopes of tracking down the car thief who could face auto theft and kidnapping charges, said Small.
