A police officer who was injured in a motorcycle accident has died from his injuries.
Officer Milan Merke of the 35th District was off-duty last Friday while participating in the Midnight Run for Peace in North Philadelphia. The goal of the event was for officers to patrol through the area to talk to people and gather information on crimes.
During the event, police say Officer Merke was riding a motorcycle when he was hit by a car at Broad and Master Streets.The driver stayed on the scene. There is no word on whether charges have been filed.
Officer Merke was taken to Hahnemann Hospital. On Thursday, police announced Officer Merke succumbed to his injuries. No word yet on funeral arrangements.
