A police officer suffered minor injuries after he was dragged for about a block while holding onto the back of a suspect’s vehicle, according to investigators.
Police received a call reporting a man was burglarizing a food truck parked in the driveway of a home on the 200 block of Nedro Avenue in the Olney section of the city around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday.
When police arrived at the scene, they spotted the suspect coming out of the food truck, according to investigators. Police say the man then ran into an SUV and tried to drive away from the scene as the officers chased after him on foot.
One of the officers grabbed onto the back of the vehicle as the suspect drove away. Investigators say the suspect struck a police cruiser, knocking off the license plate, and continued driving as the officer continued to hang onto the vehicle.
The officer was dragged for about a block until he finally jumped off the vehicle. Police say the suspect abandoned the SUV on the 5800 block of Marshall Street near Fisher Park and fled on foot. Police are currently searching for the suspect with a K9.
The officer who was dragged suffered minor scrapes to his leg but was not seriously hurt. He refused medical treatment.
“He has a couple of scrapes to his pant leg but other than that he’s in good condition,’ said Philadelphia Police Captain George Fuchs. “It could’ve been a lot worse.”

Investigators say it’s unknown whether the suspect stole anything from the food truck.
