Off-Duty Officer Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash in Fishtown

While a Philadelphia Police officer recovers from injuries he sustained during a hit-and-run crash, the search for the driver in that incident is intensifying Thursday.

The officer, who was off-duty police when he was struck early Wednesday morning along the 2300 block of E Cumberland Street in Fishtown, is in critical but stable condition with a deep cut to his head, according to Philadelphia Police.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 President John McNesby identified the injured officer as Michael Brady.

According to investigators from the Philadelphia Police Department, the 28-year-old officer was walking along East Cumberland Street at 2:07 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. Surveillance video released by police appears to show a passenger in the car get out after the incident, look at the vehicle and then get back in before traveling east on Cumberland Street toward Aramingo Avenue

The vehicle could be a black or dark-colored 2010 Ford Taurus that's missing the passenger side windshield wiper arm. The car may have minor damage to the passenger side windshield and possibly a dented hood, according to investigators.

The FOP is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver.

Members of the public are encouraged to contact 911 if they see the vehicle. To submit a tip about the incident via phone, they may call the accident investigation unit at 215-686-3180 or text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847.
