Man, 74, Dies During House Fire in New Jersey

A house fire in New Jersey early Sunday morning has turned fatal.

Investigators say a 74-year-old resident of the home died during the fire.

The fire started around 12:50 a.m. on Brower Drive in Brick Township, Ocean County.

When firefighters arrived, they found neighbors attending to a 74-year-old male occupant of the home. The male was unresponsive. CPR was performed on the male, but it was unsuccessful.

It is unknown at this time whether the male suffered a heart attack or if his death is directly related to injuries received from the fire. An autopsy is expected to be performed.

A female occupant of the home was able to make it out of the home and was treated for none life-threatening injuries at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.

A firefighter was also taken to Ocean Medical Center for treatment of heat exhaustion.

The family’s dog remains unaccounted for at this time.

Three homes were evacuated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
