Princeton, Navy Bring Back NROTC

Princeton University is bringing back the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program, known as NROTC.

The university announced Thursday that a crosstown agreement between Princeton, the Navy and Rutgers University will allow students to participate in the NROTC college-option program starting in the fall of 2014.

The program gives students the opportunity to earn a commission in the United States naval service.

They are also eligible to apply for two or three-year scholarships as they become available.

Applications for four-year NROTC scholarships are due Feb. 15 for high school students who have applied to Princeton for the fall of 2014.

Princeton has Army and Air Force ROTC programs.

It previously had an NROTC program from 1945 to 1971.
