Off-Duty Police Officer Hurt Battling North Philly Chinese Restaurant Fire

Two people, including an off-duty Philadelphia Police officer, were hospitalized after a fire at a North Philadelphia Chinese restaurant Sunday night.

The fire started at a restaurant on 5th and Cumberland streets around 6 p.m. Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control at 6:42 p.m.

Both an off-duty police officer and another man were injured during the fire. The man suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Temple University Hospital. Officials did not reveal how the officer was hurt but say the injuries are not life-threatening.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
