1.2M Residents Expected to Travel

Hitting the road for Independence Day weekend? You’re not alone.

About 1.2 million New Jersey residents are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home during the Independence Day holiday, a slight decrease from last year.

The travel estimate comes from a poll conducted for AAA.

Spokeswoman Tracy Noble says the travel will be down a bit because it's a five-day holiday period this year instead of a six-day one last year when July Fourth fell on a Wednesday.

Gas prices in New Jersey are averaging $3.38 a gallon, a dime higher than this time last year.

As motorists hit the roadways, a warning about road dangers. July 4th has been the most dangerous for area motorists in recent years.
