NJ Transit Train Hits Stolen Car Left on Tracks

No injuries were reported when a New Jersey Transit train struck a stolen car that had been left on the tracks in northern New Jersey.

NJ.com reports that no one was in the car when the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. Sunday in East Rutherford. The vehicle had been reported stolen from a site in that Bergen County community.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder says the Waldwick-bound Bergen County line train hit the car at Pascack Junction, where the Bergen and Pascack Valley lines meet.

About 15 passengers were on board the train, but they were not hurt. The passengers were soon put on another train to continue their trip.

Train service in the area was suspended for nearly three hours after the crash.
