NJ Senate President's Hometown Adopts Protest Ordinance

Officials have adopted an ordinance that restricts protests in the hometown of New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney.

The West Deptford committee on Wednesday prohibited picketing within 100 feet of a home and limited protests to 10 people for one hour every two weeks. Violators face fines of up to $2,000 and 90 days in jail.

The vote was along party lines with three Democrats in favor and two Republicans opposed. Sweeney is a Democrat.

A gun rights group staged two protests last month outside Sweeney's home. Sweeney turned on his lawn sprinklers to disperse protesters.
