New Jersey 17-Year-Old Found With Submachine Gun: Police

Police in New Jersey have arrested a 17-year-old boy who was found with a submachine gun.

NJ.com reports the Bridgeton teen was travelling in a car with four others in Pennsville Monday night when the vehicle was stopped by police. Chief of Police Allen Cummings says police received information in an ongoing narcotics probe that the teen was travelling to Pennsville to make a weapons sale.

Police discovered the submachine gun in the trunk of the car. The four other occupants of the vehicle said they weren't aware of the gun. Police released them after questioning and took the teen into custody.

The suspect has been charged with multiple offenses including possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He was taken to Atlantic County Juvenile Detention Center.
