Aggravated assault charges have been filed against a southern New Jersey man accused in the beating of a toddler who suffered a brain injury.
Ocean County prosecutors tell the Asbury Park Press that 33-year-old Timothy Montgomery, of Manchester Township, was also charged with child endangerment. His bail was set at $100,000 cash, and it was not known Saturday if he has retained an attorney.
Authorities were notified after the 18-month-old girl was taken to a hospital in June. The child had apparently been injured two days earlier, and she underwent surgery to control the swelling of the brain.
The child's mother said she had left the girl with another person while she went to a convenience store. An investigation determined the girl's injuries were the result of "inflicted impact."
