Delaware County Police Search for Volunteers to Get Drunk for DUI School

Police officers in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania want you to help them by getting drunk on their dime. And no, it’s not a trap.

The Department announced Monday that they’re looking for volunteers to participate in a “field sobriety coordination testing school” for officers. The officers involved in the school are working to get a certification which would allow them to use different techniques while enforcing the DUI laws in the Pennsylvania Commonwealth.

“To successfully conduct this training the police department needs 20 volunteers who are willing to consume alcoholic beverages under supervision,” a Newtown Township PD spokesperson wrote. “Upon reaching various levels of intoxication, the volunteers will be asked to perform 3 field sobriety coordination tests which officers will administer.”

Volunteers must be between the ages of 21 and 55, less than 45 pounds or more overweight and not on any medication that has a negative reaction to alcohol.

The classes will take place May 5, May 6 and May 7 at the BPG Conference Center in Newtown Square. The volunteers will be needed May 6 and May 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"All dosing of alcoholic beverages will be monitored and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided," the spokesperson said.
