Police in New Jersey arrested an officer from New Milford on drug charges.

Officers found 28-year-old Patrolman Daniel DeMarco in a parking lot on Friday.

Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno told The Record newspaper DeMarco voluntarily identified himself as an officer after he was charged with possession of one bag of crack cocaine, possession of a syringe and drug paraphernalia, and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

“He’s going to be treated like everyone else who breaks the law, regardless of what he does for a living,” Foligno told the paper.

New Milford Detective Sgt. Brian Long said he could not comment on DeMarco's arrest or his status within the department.
