Driver Charged in Deadly Crash Along New Jersey Turnpike

A North Plainfield man has been arrested and charged with causing a motor vehicle crash in which his front-seat passenger was killed on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Middlesex County prosecutors say 24-year-old Carlos Aguirre has been charged with death by auto and driving while intoxicated after the crash around 4 a.m. Sunday in Woodbridge Township. His passenger, 25-year-old Edgar Galvez of North Plainfield, was pronounced dead at the scene about 40 minutes later.

State police have determined that Aguirre was driving south in an outer lane of the turnpike when his car crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer.

Aguirre is being held on $250,000 bail. It wasn't immediately known if he has a lawyer.
