New Jersey Teacher Receives Assault Charge After She Allegedly Kicked Chair From Student

A teacher in New Jersey has been suspended with pay after police say a student hit his head on the floor after she pulled his chair away from him.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that a police report says 40-year-old Kimberley Peschi, a teacher from Belhaven Middle School, walked behind the student last month and used her leg to pull the chair backward while the boy was sitting.

Peschi referred calls to her attorney, who was not immediately available for comment.

She was charged Feb. 15 with cruelty and neglect of children and simple assault.

Linwood School District Interim Superintendent Michelle Cappelluti says that the district's main concern is that students receive the education they're entitled to in a safe and supportive learning environment. She says further action may be taken against Peschi.
