New Jersey Supreme Court Awards New Trial to Terminated Dispatcher

New Jersey's Supreme Court says a former dispatcher who says she was discriminated against because she refused to work the midnight shift should get a new trial on her claims that she was unfairly terminated.

MyCentralJersey.com reports the court ruled Thursday that Patricia Del Vecchio should get a new trial because a judge didn't allow her doctors to testify fully on her medical condition.

Del Vecchio worked for the Bridgewater Township police department until 2009, when she was fired for excessive absences.

Del Vecchio claims she was given the choice of transferring or being fired because she refused to work the midnight shift. She says she'd given her supervisors a doctor's note saying she had health issues and should avoid working it.

The township didn't respond to a request for comment.
