New Jersey Releases School-By-School Teacher Grades

New Jersey education officials have released school and district-level results from the first year of the state's new teacher evaluation system.

But many schools' results are not fully available because of a policy to keep individual educators' grades confidential.

Previously, New Jersey schools had classified teacher performances in just two ratings. Now, there are four grades: Ineffective, partially effective, effective and highly effective.

For the first time, student test scores are incorporated into the marks of some teachers.

Ninety-seven percent of the state's educators fell in the top two categories in the 2013-14 school year, the first the new system was used.

The state says it released the data publicly after receiving requests from some media outlets.
