Authorities in Maui say three people have died and a man from New Jersey was hurt in incidents off the island.
Hawaii News Now reports 19-year-old Emmanuel Tabbay and 18-year-old Edelene Parilla of Kahului were pulled from Honokohau Bay Monday afternoon.
Police say Parilla had been walking on the coast when she was washed into the ocean by a wave in an area known as Chutes and Ladders. Police say Tabbay jumped into the water to try to save Parrilla, but didn't make it.
Later Monday afternoon, bystanders near the Makena Beach and Golf Resort pulled a man who had been snorkeling from the ocean.
CPR performed on the man failed to revive him.
Later, a man visiting from Colts Neck, New Jersey, was hospitalized in critical condition after being found in waters fronting the Kaanapali Ocean Resort.
