Authorities have arrested a northwestern New Jersey man who allegedly stabbed another man last weekend.
Hackettstown police say 25-year-old town resident Steven Haar faces aggravated assault and weapons charges.
The 28-year-old victim told police he was stabbed early Sunday after his attacker asked for a cigarette or money. When the man didn't hand over anything, he said the attacker brandished a knife and eventually stabbed him.
But investigators say that story was false.
They say Haar, the victim and another man had agreed to meet to a settle an earlier dispute. Haar allegedly stabbed the victim in the foot and back during that meeting before fleeing the scene.
It's not known if Haar has retained a lawyer. He remained jailed on Wednesday.
