New Jersey lawmakers are sending Gov. Chris Christie a bill that would legalize sports gambling at casinos and race tracks.
Both chambers of the Legislature overwhelmingly passed the bill on Thursday, just three days after it was introduced.
This defies the U.S. Supreme Court, which on Monday left in place a ban on sports betting.
Gov. Chris Christie's administration pushed for the nation's top court to allow sports betting in New Jersey. But after the effort was rebuffed, he seemed indifferent, saying, "They said 'no' so we have to move on."
He has not said whether he will support the bill.
Its sponsor, state Sen. Raymond Lesniak, says the federal government should allow New Jersey to have the betting since marijuana is legal in Washington and Colorado despite federal bans.
