New Jersey Horse Diagnosed With Infectious Disease, Farm Under Quarantine

A Burlington County horse farm has been quarantined for three weeks after a 5-year-old horse was euthanized when it was diagnosed with a highly infectious disease.

The horse was euthanized on Feb. 14 after displaying signs of equine herpes myeloencephalopathy. The condition leads to lack of muscle control, stumbling and facial paralysis and spreads quickly from horse to horse.

The virus does not affect humans.
