Two New Jersey Men Guilty in Woman's Hammer-Beating Death

A New Jersey man has been convicted of murder in the death of a woman who was beaten with a hammer, kicked and dumped in a wooded area two years ago.

Omar Galvez, 36, was found guilty Thursday of killing 37-year-old Jennifer Cruz-Chavez in Fairfield Township.

The woman was last leaving a Bridgeton party in 2014 and getting into a van with Galvez and Jose Martinez. Her body was found in a wooded area by hunters, according to The Daily Journal.

Galvez previously rejected a plea deal. He now faces up to life in prison. The Bridgeton man will be sentenced in December.

Martinez took a deal offered by prosecutors and pleaded guilty in June to aggravated manslaughter.

Martinez, 29, is scheduled to be sentenced to 20 years behind bars next month if the court accepts his plea.
