New Jersey Mom Hides Heroin, Crack Cocaine Under Toddler in Car Seat: Police

A New Jersey mom stands accused of hiding heroin and crack cocaine underneath her toddler in a car seat.

According to investigators, Manchester Township police pulled over a 2001 BMW about 5:30 p.m. Monday.

During the stop, investigators say it was determined that the driver, 26-year-old Tara Worthy, was driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Investigators say Worthy concealed a small hand bag underneath of her seat. In the bag, investigators say, was drug paraphernalia associated with heroin use.

Both Worthy and a passenger in the car were placed under arrest. The pair was transported to police headquarters, along with Worthy’s 19-month-old child. The toddler was transported using the child safety seat, which was taken out of the BMW by Worthy, police said.

While at police headquarters, the toddler was removed from the child safety seat. Investigators said officers found heroin, crack cocaine and other drug paraphernalia underneath the child.

Worthy is facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child, possession of heroin, possession of crack cocaine, hindering apprehension and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Her passenger was charged with possession of a hypodermic needle and later released on a complaint summons.

The child was turned over to the custody of the Division of Child Protection and Permanency at Manchester Police Headquarters.
