Buying breast pumps and breast milk supplies could get more affordable in New Jersey.
The Democrat-led Legislature sent legislation to exempt those supplies from the state's sales tax to GOP Gov. Chris Christie's desk on Thursday.
Lawmakers say the bill is necessary because breast pumps and supplies are "basic necessities" that should not be subject to sales tax.
They're currently subject to the state's 6.875 percent sales tax. That rate is scheduled to fall to 6.625 percent in January as part of a deal last year between Christie and the Legislature.
A legislative fiscal analysis says the state could expect to lose about $1.36 million in revenue because of the change.
