New Castle has a $40 million dollar deficit and guess who they want to pay for it?
If you guessed Delaware homeowners, you're correct.
New Castle County Executive Chris Coons is proposing a new budget, which includes raising citizens’ property taxes by a whopping 25 percent.
If the proposal goes through, it will be the second biggest tax hike in the New Castle Co. history. It should help to raise $21 million dollars that can help decrease the debt.
Most homeowners would expect their bill to rise anywhere from $100 to $500 annually, according to reports.
If the proposal goes through expect personnel cuts, too.
county officials will dig through the proposal in the coming weeks.
