Pregnant Mother, Two Young Children Dead After House Fire in Berks County

A pregnant mother and two of her young children died in a house fire in Berks County that broke out late Saturday, officials said at the scene.

The three victims were not immediately identified by state police or local firefighters at the scene in the small borough of Hamburg, which is 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia.

The woman was pregnant and the children were ages 5 and 2, state police said later Sunday. A fourth person, identified only as a male occupant, jumped from a second-floor window. He was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

No cause is yet known.

Reports of flames coming from a house on South Fourth Street came in to Berks County emergency communications about midnight. The blaze took about two hours to extinguish.
