A young Bensalem mother was arrested and accused on Friday of severely abusing her three-year-old daughter.
The little girl was hospitalized in early November with a bad burn on her right hand and severe bruising throughout her body, according to Bensalem Township police. While she was in the hospital, doctors determined she had been severely abused, neglected and malnourished.
The child's mother, Amanda Amaya, was charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault. The 24-year-old was jailed on $200,000 bail.
Amaya's three-year-old and her five other children have been placed in foster care, according to police.
