Bloodied Boyfriend Faces Assault Charge After Millersville University Student Dies in Dorm

UPDATE: The criminal complaint revealed more details in Hall's death.

The boyfriend of a Delaware County teenager found dead in her college dorm room remained behind bars as the investigation into the woman's death continued Monday.

Gregorio Orrostieta, 19, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania was arrested Sunday after the death of his girlfriend, 18-year-old Karlie Hall of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. Hall, a graduate of Unionville High School, was a freshman at Millersville University β€” Orrostieta doesn't attend the school.

On Sunday around 5 a.m., Millersville University and Millersville Borough police were called to Bard Hall, a dorm at Millersville University, for a report of cardiac arrest. When they arrived they found Hall unresponsive in her dorm room. Medics later pronounced her dead.

Officials didn't immediately reveal an exact cause of death but said she died under suspicious circumstances. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.

Investigators determined that Orrostieta, who was Hall's boyfriend, was involved in a physical altercation with her before her death. In his booking photo, blood is visible on Orrostieta's face.

Police charged Orrostieta with aggravated assault. He remained in custody at Lancaster County Prison unable to post $1.5 million bail.

Karlie's twin sister Kristen Hall attends Millersville, said her high school principal.

Officials said university counseling staff and campus ministries will be available on campus to talk to students who need assistance.

University president John Anderson expressed his sadness and condolences over the "unfathomable loss" of Hall.

"I ask that you join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to Karlie’s family and friends," Anderson wrote on the university's website. "If you personally knew Karlie, please accept my heartfelt condolences at this most difficult time."
