Ex-Philly Mayor Michael Nutter Gets His Own Theater

Officials with the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia say they plan to name a new theater after former Mayor Michael Nutter, whose term ended last year.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the dedication is scheduled for Wednesday.

The convention center repurposed a former lecture hall for the Michael A. Nutter Theatre. The 600-seat venue is designed to host film festivals, movie premieres and screenings, as well as corporate meetings, concerts and comedy shows.

The seven-month, $400,000 upgrade was funded by the city's hotel tax.

Officials say the renovation hopes to make the space more marketable.

Nutter served as chairman of the convention center's board of directors from 2003 to 2007.
