Former Assistant DA is Hit & Run Driver: Police

Authorities say the man resigned from the Delco DA last week -- after he hit the teen and fled.

The driver believed to be responsible for hitting a teen and fleeing the scene worked in the Delaware County District Attorney’s office at the time of the accident, police confirm to NBC Philadelphia.

Police say that 31-year-old Michael Donohue resigned from his position as Assistant District Attorney last Wednesday, following the November 4 hit and run.

A 14-year-old Havertown boy was crossing Township Line at Bryan Street in Drexel Hill with two friends around 10:30 p.m.when he was hit.

The victim was thrown 25 to 30 feet in the air, according to Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

Witnesses say Donohue began driving down a one-way street, stopped his car, got out and checked his vehicle for damage. He did not, however, check on the teen before he hopped back in his car and fled the scene.

The Haverford High School freshman was rushed to Children’s Hospital where he was in critical condition. He has since been released.

Donohue's car was found a few days later at a relative's home.

According to court documents, the driver was seen drinking at a local bar since 4:30 that afternoon.

Donahue has been charged with the hit and run as well as assault and other traffic-related offenses. He was arraigned early Monday and left the police station after posting 10-percent of his $25,000 bail.
