Masked Gunman Kills 1, Hurts 2 Others in Kensington Shooting

A man is dead and two others hospitalized after a masked gunman opened fire on a Kensington street Friday afternoon, police said.

Gunfire erupted along the 3000 block of B Street just before 4:30 p.m. leaving three men sitting in a 2005 Toyota injured, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

A 22-year-old man was hit once in the head and chest, another 22-year-old man was hit once in the back and a 25-year-old man was struck four times injuring his chest, right arm and hand and chest, Small said.

Police believe the car's driver was not hit in the shooting and took the victims to nearby Episcopal Hospital for help. They were later transferred to Temple University Hospital's trauma center. The driver fled the scene.

Witnesses told police the gunman wore a mask and left the scene on foot. Ballistic evidence shows they let off at least five rounds. Small said the street was filled with adults and kids when the shooting happened.

"We're still lucky that no one was struck by a stray bullet or that any young children that are out here playing on a regular basis weren't struck by any gunfire," Small said.

Detectives interviewed witnesses and are collecting surveillance video from nearby homes and businesses.
