Martina White Wins Special Election for Vacant House Seat in Philadelphia

Martina White has won a special election for a House seat in northeast Philadelphia, becoming the city's second Republican member of the House.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Tuesday that White defeated Democrat Sarah Del Ricci for the 170th District seat. Unofficial tallies of 97 percent of the vote show White with a 14 percent margin.

The 26-year-old financial adviser will join state Rep. John Taylor in Harrisburg. He's the city's Republican chairman and also represents a district in the northeast.

The 170th district seat formerly was held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle.

In November, Boyle was simultaneously re-elected to the state House and to a congressional seat vacated by Allyson Schwartz when she ran unsuccessfully for governor last year.

Boyle resigned from the Pennsylvania Legislature to enter Congress.
