Stolen Bronze MLK Jr. Statue Saved From Pennsylvania Scrap Yard

A replica of a bronze statue of Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife stolen from the home of a Pennsylvania mayoral candidate has been recovered from a scrap yard.

The (Allentown) Morning Call reports that Sam Bennett said Thursday that she believes the 2-feet-tall, 86-pound replica of a life-size statue that stands in downtown Allentown was the target of the break-in at her home.

Authorities say Luis Malpica-Adorno was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property. He was in Lehigh County Jail on $30,000 bail and it wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney to comment on his behalf.

The statue owned by the Freedom Memorial of the Lehigh Valley is also valued at $30,000.
