Underground Equipment Failure Causes Power Outage in Northeast Philadelphia

An underground equipment failure caused over 1000 customers to lose power in Northeast Philadelphia Monday night.

The outage occurred shortly before 8 p.m., knocking out power to 1048 customers and sending smoke into the area around Woodhaven Road and Evans Street. The power was eventually restored for the customers at 8:43 p.m.

PECO officials told NBC10 moisture getting into a fuse can cause smoke as well as a loud noise. They continue to investigate the cause of the equipment failure.
